Wearing pink Goggles and T-shirts, over 300 sixth grade girls participated in the first “Girls With Goggles” event on October 27, 2017. The event introduces girls to non-traditional careers by providing hands-on learning.
At the invitation of two IKORCC Brothers, SIB Chair Teresa Moore helped with the construction learning which involved nailing, as well as using a screw gun and a block pane. Teresa also talked about her experiences as a Carpenter and showed a video from the New England Regional Council of Carpenters (NERCC).
Held at the Ashland County West Holmes Career Center, the program works with about 600 girls throughout the Ashland, Ohio District where approximately 100 participate in the Construction Trades Program. For this class, four male students helped the instructor.
The girls were excited and worked enthusiastically, as these pictures show. They also applauded and smiled during Teresa’s video presentation.
