For the second year, New England Sisters played a big role in the Massachusetts Girls In Trades (MAGIT) Alumni outreach event. Held on February 8, 2017, the event focused on young women graduates from 12 Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Traditional high schools. Parents and instructors were also part of the audience.
Something that made this event special was a $1.2 billion Wynn Boston Harbor project that is just starting. The event was held onsite so alumnae could see the project and visualize future job opportunities.
Another special part of the day were the presentations delivered by working tradeswomen. They talked about personal experiences and answered questions. Local 118 Piledriver apprentice Jen Legay is pictured on the left.
Marketing the event involved reaching out to high schools in surrounding towns, as well as sending postcards and emails to 1,500 girls that graduated from building trades programs in the last two years.
The turnout was awesome, the enthusiasm was great, and the interest was high.
