As part of their training, one New Jersey class of women pre-apprentices toured the Torcon, Inc. jobsite. The tour was arranged by the Associated Construction Contractors New Jersey (ACCNJ). They represent building contractors, construction managers, and other entities that employ tens of thousands of skilled Union craftworkers each year.
In highlighting the importance of the tour, Susan Schultz, SIB committee chair for the Keystone Mountain Lakes Regional Council, said: “A movie or description cannot prepare someone for their first experience of walking onto a jobsite.”
The women felt the same. They had the opportunity to see, walk, and visit a construction site before they would have to work on one.
