Kathy McNeil of Millennium Partners asked EST Tom Flynn if the Council could work with her to provide access to childcare for the 2,500 workers who will be building Winthrop Square in downtown Boston. That request started the ball rolling to search for providers that offered childcare during non-standard hours required by the project.

Liz Skidmore, Boston SIB chair and NERCC Business Representative, participated in several meetings with Union childcare providers. The decision was to work with Square One, a non-profit childcare agency in Springfield, MA. They have developed a model to find providers and help them get licensed.

Liz also involved the Independent Woman Project (IWP). The SIB committee works with them to find childcare solutions for tradeswomen. She is pictured at a meeting.

As for the Square One childcare initiative. It’s early, but it looks promising.
