Massachusetts Sisters saw their months of hard work come to fruition during the October 2019 “Summit on Diversity in Construction” event that was held at Smith College. The 90-plus attendees represented institutions from 13 private sector companies and 9 public sector organizations. These institutions were targeted because they care about diversity and because they provide an opportunity to increase market share.
The program was designed to showcase projects that used both Union and diverse workers. Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor, Karyn Polito, delivered the keynote speech. Other notable program events included:
- One Sister who spoke at the event
- A panel presentation that included SIB chair Lisa Clauson
- An award presentation to recognize 10 projects/institutions for diversity in construction
- Five members, including three Sisters, who spoke with professors and students after the event
The event was extremely successful and offered a strong business development opportunity. NERCC representatives had a chance to re-engage with valuable End-Users. Signatory General Contractors and Subcontractors had a chance to mingle and network with decision makers. There was also a lot of positive press.
