When Local 277 sponsored a “Jill of All Trades” workshop, Sisters knew this would provide an opportunity to showcase construction careers. Held on November 24, 2019, in Liverpool, NY, the workshop is part of the Girls World Expos one-day events.
These events, which occur around the country, offer girls opportunities to attend workshops and seminars; sign-up for local community service projects; and experience art, dance, science, and music. The girls also explore different college and career choices.
That’s where Sisters came on the scene. Becky Plumpton, Linda Dauccio, Bianca Ellis, and Marie Smithgall ran a booth with a sheetrock/screw-gun demo. Girls experienced what it would be like to install sheetrock. They also hammered nails into 2×6 boards.
Everyone had a lot of fun. Plus, the girls who participated received pencils and stickers.
