Girls Build Event Receives Positive Publicity

Apprentice, Doreen Barnett, described the participants’ feelings at the May 9, 2018 Girls Build event as follows: “It is super cool doing things you never thought you could ever do.” Held at the Prairie Township Community Center in Columbus, Ohio, 20 girls age 8 to 14 participated in a hands-on construction workshop that captured the attention of the Columbus Messenger Newspaper.

Business Representative, Matt Russell, was instrumental in organizing the event. He also ensured the girls were equipped with tools to construct the birdhouses – tape measures, hardhats, goggles, and more. Throughout the day, Matt and Doreen provided instruction and helped the girls learn the tools of the trade.

The girls had a lot of fun building the birdhouses. Some, like Abby, were even inspired to expand their construction experiences. “I think I’m going to try to build a dollhouse next,” she said.
