Although produced in multiple styles and configurations, aerial lifts used in the construction environment are all designed to hoist personnel and their equipment to elevated working positions. If proper safety measures and guidelines are not followed during use, serious injuries and fatalities can occur. For this reason, the Aerial Lift Operator Qualification training includes a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on driving techniques that follow OSHA regulations and ANSI standards.
During training, UBC members will develop the skills necessary to safely operate “Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms” (Scissor Lifts) and “Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms” (Boom Lifts), including load capacity restrictions, maintaining center of gravity, and reach capabilities. UBC members will also learn how to assess equipment and working environment to prevent hazards and dangerous situations. Understanding how to properly use equipment and knowing how to identify the correct aerial lift for the task improve member safety and efficiency on the job site.
